Description:

Large, black-headed tit with large white face patch, and pale underparts divided by black ventral line. Black breast centre and line down belly, greyish mantle, greyish-white breast sides and flanks, and white wing-bar. Juvenile has yellowish-white cheeks and underparts, and yellowish-olive wash to mantle.


Distribution:

Common resident in relatively lower valleys all across Gilgit-Baltistan. Mostly open deciduous, conifer and mixed forest edges and clearings; also more widely in plantations, orchards, gardens and edges of cultivation; up to 3400m.


Behavior:

Forages at all levels in trees, where it gleans among foliage, branches and trunks, also in shrubs and tall undergrowth. Also on ground, especially male in non-breeding season, where collects fallen seeds, berries and invertebrates. Food in summer mostly small invertebrates and larvae; at other seasons also seeds and various other items.
